The QX50 is the ambassador of the brand slogan "empower the drive." More than simply a slogan, it's a philosophy for the brand, and reflected in every aspect of the new QX50, including its refined design, unmatched driving comfort, intuitive technologies and exclusive VC-Turbo engine.
INFINITI's VC-Turbo is the world's first production-ready variable compression ratio engine and is being debuted in the 2019 QX50. The variable compression ratio is a breakthrough in engine design—the QX50's 2.0-litre VC-Turbo engine continuously adapts to the driver's needs by adjusting its compression ratio to optimize power and efficiency. It combines the power of a 2.0-litre turbocharged gasoline engine with the torque and efficiency of a state-of-the-art four-cylinder diesel engine.
The VC-Turbo smoothly adjusts its compression ratio with a multi-link system by continually increasing or decreasing the range of the pistons to produce power and efficiency on demand.
A high compression ratio improves efficiency but can result in premature combustion (pinging) under certain conditions. A low compression ratio produces more power and torque and eliminates pinging. On the road, the 2019 QX50's VC-Turbo engine can offer any compression ratio between 8:1 (performance) and 14:1 (efficiency). The engine automatically adjusts the horsepower to improve control, attesting to INFINITI's driver-centric approach.

In addition to the all-new QX50, INFINITI will unveil the redesigned QX80, a powerful full-size SUV that stands out because of its refinement and ride comfort, and boosts INFINITI's presence in the global full-size SUV segment.
The INFINITI 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 engine was named to Ward's 10 Best Engines list for the 2018 model year. The VR-series engine has the distinction of being one of just two engines on the list to receive the award for a second consecutive year. The engine is based on the VR engine family and is available in INFINITI's Q50 range of sport sedans and its Q60 sport coupe. Available in two configurations, the 3.0-liter VR-series engine is capable of producing 300 horsepower with 295 lb-ft of torque; in a high-performance option, this engine delivers 400 horsepower and 350 lb-ft of torque.
